Galactic Gateway
In the Lore of Energy and Light universe, a Galactic Gateway is a portal from one location in space to another – always from one Galactic Gateway to another, and always to and from these linked Gates.
There are eight Galactic Gateways in the universe. Mysteriously spread across D’Olex, most planets have no nearby Galactic Gateways, some have one. However, one distant planet in Cytoroz is encircled by three. As fast as ships are, these portals make space travel even faster.
Entering a Gateway
A Galactic Gateway portals you the moment you enter the sphere. The passage is sustained through space long enough for a connection from one Galactic Gateway to another. Once severed, the energy disappears, leaving the Gateway open and clear.
Gateways give no tunnel of light and no sense of travel – it’s an instantaneous geographic shift. One moment a ship will be gliding toward the mouth the Galactic Gateway, and the next the ship will pass through it, only to appear out of another Gateway, usually in a different star system from where it originated.
Temporal disorientation is a common side-effect of travelling within the Gate system. Pilots and crew report feeling nauseated, and in extreme cases vomiting will occur.
Speculation
No knows who built the Galactic Gateway portals, or why. Old races like the Dybiss have linked the number of Gateways to the number of arms on the Alliance Golden Cross. It appears that, for all the technology possessed by races of D’Olex, no one can replicate the Galactic Gateways at this time.
