D’Olex Decipher
A D’Olex Decipher or ‘Decipher’ is a form of Nanobot used to translate the various languages in the Lore of Energy and Light galaxies of D’Olex. Deciphers are the size of a dot on the tip of your finger, black, round, and very thin. When first placed in a host’s ear, the Nanobot is activated and traverses the ear canal before embedding itself inside the inner ear.
Translations
A host with a D’Olex Decipher embedded in their ear can hear conversations as if they are being spoken in their mother tongue. Choosing the language to hear is simply done through thought, and is generally an unconscious act by the host. The most widely spoken language in D’Olex is Universal Prose. The translation by the Nanobot is not dubbed, but rather the host hears words being spoken in real-time in the voice of the speaker as if they were communicating in the same language.
A host may choose at any time to by-pass the translation of their D’Olex Decipher. In this case, the host would hear whatever sound is coming into their ear canal.
Communication
A host can simply think a message which is transmitted to any connected Deciphers. All intended recipients hear the message in their minds, as translated by their own Deciphers. This is not telepathy or assisted telepathy, but rather a purely technological form of communication. From the book series so far it is unknown what the communication range is between two Deciphers, although they do appear to work across battlefields and between a space station and nearby ships.
