A Craggoo is a dangerous, woolly creature in the Lore of Energy and Light universe of D’Olex. Craggoos are roughly the size of an elephant, although these beasts are low to the ground, and far more sleek and agile.
Round and bloated, Craggoos are native to the outer reaches of the star system of Thruress where the frozen environments require fat and fur for survival. From head to stumpy tail, a Craggoo’s fur is medium of length, matted and knotted with occasional curls, all of which makes them look larger than they are.
“The heavy Craggoo leered at the taunts from its master, then turned to sniff the rodent on the far side of the pen, atremble. It snarled and snapped. Craggoos were pack animals, who usually liked to sleep together, burrowed deep in their snow caves; it looked out of place here. The Craggoo’s thick ashen coat contrasted the dull auburn sands of this parched planet.”
On many planets, like Cortella Maxi, Craggoo races are a common form of public entertainment, providing great spectacle that citizens can bet on.
Valkers train Craggoos as weapons of war. Much like Humans ride horses, Valkers have mounted Craggoo divisions that are used to charge at the enemy.
“Beneath a growth of matted hair, dust and slather, was a face hidden. Illick watched the black lips move on a head bigger than most citizens’ torsos. And those eyes; blistering orange and calculating. At full tilt a Craggoo could manage to lift its weight off the ground and charge into a low scurry. It came hurtling in a flash of fur. Deep claw marks etched its hasty path across the pen, kicking up sand, bulbous tail in tow.”
It is unknown how long Craggoos can live for, and these creatures have no natural predators described in the book.
